Avocados here cost

23 pesos per KILO.  That is less than 2$ for 2 POUNDS.  The last avocados I bought in the States was 1.75$ EACH.

And pinapples cost 8 pesos each.  That's less than a dollar.

Strawberries are also 24 pesos per KILO.  2 pounds for 2 dollars.

Don't worry, I'll keep you updated on the awesome prices of more fruit here.  Just to tempt you into visiting.

  1. Oh. My. Goodness. I would eat myself sick! Whenever you've eaten so much fresh fruit you think you'll burst, put another bite in your mouth for your Michigan cousins who only have shipped-in, unripe, flavorless, overpriced fruit at the grocery store.

  2. Oh and please dont forget to mention along with the great cost comes great taste. The fruit is so much fresher and ... well real. I know that sounds strange but for those of us who experience it you know what I mean.

  3. Amanda- soooo true!! I think its because the fruit is rippened (or mostly rippened) on the tree/vine, instead of plucked from its home during infancy and shipped abroad :)

Sasstress, his morning I thought of you while eyeing all the fresh fruit at the mercado. And my licuado with 6 different fruits was delicious,I savored it extra just for you ;)

  4. I know, we're spoiled here. Whenever I travel to the States, I cook the same foods and they don't taste the same. Just wait until it's rainy season (roughly June-September) -- suddenly we'll get tons of fabulous greens, wild mushrooms, cactus fruits and huitlacoche! Oh, and you must try the guavas here. They've become my favorite Mexican fruit, along with mamey. Bienvenidos!

  5. **jealous** those are great prices! My son loves fruit and it seems like I am buying it constantly! He'd rather eat fruit than junk food which is definitely great (don't want him eating junk food) so..... we'd be in heaven with those prices.
