Celebrating 25 blog followers!

Just noticed, the blog has 25 followers!

Call me a dork, but it made my day. I started this blog to keep family and friends up to date back home on our lives here in Mexico City. With two young ones, I figured people would enjoy seeing pictures and reading anecdotes about their mischevious behavior. Also, I figured family back home would enjoy reading all the positive experiences we are having in our new home and also really enjoy realizing we hadnt been kidnapped for ransom by a cartel member ;)

It is hard to see from the States, how normal and content a family can be living here in Mexico. The media only runs stories that make good headlines. Of course they don't run "Toddler Girl Makes Friends With Old Guy at Market and Recieves Free Bubble Wand" or "Baby Learnes To Do Headstands in Hotel in Acapulco" or "American Woman Gorges Herself on Fresh Fruit Daily and Loses 40 Pounds in 4 Months" . Those headlines don't sell papers or bring more viewers. They are however, much closer to the truth for our life here in Mexico.

After I started blogging little stories and thoughts on our life here, I somehow stumbled onto other blogs of expats here in Mexico. There are tons of families who have relocated to Mexico (and other countries). Some with young families, some as retirees, some as young adults. Some willingly, some forcibly, some temporarily, and some permanently. I love reading their stories on how life is normal, different, the same, scary, exciting, relaxing, stressful, new... And everything else under the sun.

In honor of all 25 of the blogs followers, I would love to hear from you on what brings you here, or what you have in common with us, or just a hello! I know who the first two followers are, family members from back home M and S . :)

Thanks for tuning in for our stories!

PS the 2.5 year old just informed me she is going to work. Those are broken sunglasses she is wearing. In her purse are 6 markers and 2 spoons. Just what you need to go to work, right?

  1. Congratulations on 25 followers!!!

    Well, to answer your question.

We came to Mexico with hopes of getting my husbands visa but, the cost of living has slowed us down majorly. Our plan was to use my tax refund from last year but, we needed the money to get settled in here. SO, now we are on year 2 of living in Meico and I am finally getting settled in. We will be moving as you know from my blog and we still have hopes of obtaining Miguel's visa if only to visit. I love Mexico but hate Monterrey. So, I can live anywhere, but MOnterrey.

    Happy Mother's Day!!!

    1. Stephanie,
I am very excited for your move, what - 15 days left? I think its interesting to see how people perspectives change after moving here. Love that you are going with the flow, even if you can apply for Miguels visa right away. Goodmluck in the upcoming move to the Rancho!

  2. I'm not a follower, but I do have your blog in my google reader. I lived in Mexico during college, and I secretly want to move back (but currently don't have the guts to do so). So I live vicariously through all the bloggers in Mexico. :-)
PS The rice & mole in your header looks so delicious.

    1. Lisa,
Thanks mama! I know, super dorky to be excited about 25 :) and toddlers are always great in photos, if they sit still enough.

I need to write up an entry on our status.. We havent officially recieved a ban but I'm sure we will. Which is why we are making the best of it from the get go - as you know, being negative never solves anything :)

    1. Sasstress, I love that you take time out of your busy mommy day to read my dorky blog. Even better that you always comment and make me feel like someone back home still loves us. This is why my inlaws kow you as "mi prima favorita" . Sometimes my suegra simply calls you "la favorita" . Kid . You. Not.

    1. For some reason, I can't make my own comment, so I'll just reply on Tara's. (Thanks, Tara!)

I love blogs of people who are just starting out in Mexico and their reactions (hence, I'm following you)--plus your kids are about the same ages as mine, AND you live in Mexico City which I love and am way too far away from.

I met my husband when I did a study-abroad semester in Puebla. We dated long-distance for 9 years (I lived in Puebla & Morelos to be closer to him for 2 1/2 of those years). Then we got married and we're still here . . . just a lot farther north. That's my story.

I'm sure enjoying yours! Thanks for sharing!

Its too bad you dont live in Mexico City, or our kiddos could hang out! So how long have you been here total.? Sounds like a lot longer than my almost 6 months. I cant wait to look back and see how I first viewed our new home too.

Thanks so much for reading along! I have a post coming up about a yummy Mexican summer treat (jicaletas!) that Im sure you know all about ;)

As for my story, I moved to Puerto Vallarta when I was 22 years old. Almost 10 years later, I met my husband there and now we're living in GDL. :)
